Dear Parents/Caregivers,
This note is an Expression of Interest for the Year 4 two-night camp in Week 5 of Term 4. The children will be leaving on Wednesday 5th November and arriving back Friday 7th November November 2025 (Week 5 Term 4). A number of school personnel will be attending this camp. This includes Mrs Milner, Mr O'Rourke, Miss Wood, Mrs Xinis, Mrs Syeda & Mr Johnson. No parent help is required on this camp.
The camp is being held at QCCC (Queensland Conference and Camping Centre) at 70 Obi Obi Road, Mapleton. The camp is located in Mapleton, atop the Blackall Range. The children will be involved in a variety of activities in which the camp specialises. These include: giant swing, climbing wall, canoeing, orienteering and archery as well as team initiative games and swimming. These activities are run by specially trained staff who work with the Windsor State School teachers.
At Windsor State School our belief of outdoor education includes providing opportunities for students in Years 3-6 to engage in camps and excursions where the process of learning, growth, development and education takes place outdoors, within activities designed to have a common ‘growth through challenge’ and ‘learning by doing’ philosophy.
The purpose of this letter is to gauge interest to ensure that it is a viable activity so we can go ahead with the planning for it. The estimated cost will be approximately $375.00. This cost includes the catering, 2 nights’ accommodation, camp activities and the bus travel. The cost will be finalised and confirmed once administration has calculated the figures based on the final number of expected attendees and you will be invoiced with the exact cost closer to the event, along with a letter outlining other relevant information. Please do not send any money until you receive an invoice. If you would prefer to pay the cost in smaller instalments leading up to the camp, please indicate this when completing the form.
Overview:
The camp program consists of 3 core components:
- Outdoor Pursuits – e.g. archery, orienteering, flying fox, climbing wall, canoeing
- Environmental Education – understanding the natural environment in which the pursuit is taking place
- Intra and Inter Personal Growth and Development – placing students in an environment that is safe yet challenging, difficult yet enjoyable.
The focus of the camp is to build independence, confidence and team building skills, cooperation, persistence and resilience in a safe yet challenging environment.
We understand that for some children there may be some anxiety associated with going on camp. Please be assured that as the camp approaches we will be spending time with the children to show them pictures of the camp and the activities, discussing routines and expectations as well as answering questions that they may have. If your child does seem anxious about camp, now is the time to start talking to them about their concerns and perhaps arranging some sleep overs at a friend’s place to get them used to packing a bag and being away from home overnight. If you have any concerns regarding camp, please contact your child’s teacher to discuss ways we can resolve them. Personal issues concerning your child are always kept strictly confidential.
QCCC’s accommodation includes four bunk beds per room. The centre is a fully equipped camp to include all meals which are prepared by fully qualified chefs and meals are included for students with specific dietary requirements.
