Dear Parents and Caregivers of Year 5,
This letter is to inform you that the Year 5 Camp, as previously outlined, will be held in Week 9 of Term 3. The children will be leaving on Tuesday 9th September and arriving back Friday 12th September 2025. A number of school personnel will be attending this camp. This includes Mrs Jackson, Mrs Barlow, Mrs Free, Mrs Stacey, Mrs McVeigh & Mr Johnson. No parent help is required on this camp.
The purpose of this letter is to gauge interest to ensure that it is a viable activity so we can go ahead with the planning for it. The estimated cost will be approximately $585.00. This cost includes the catering, 3 nights’ accommodation, camp activities and the bus travel. The cost will be finalised and confirmed once administration has calculated the figures regarding expressions of interest and you will be invoiced with the exact cost closer to the event, along with a letter outlining other relevant information. Please do not send any money until you receive an invoice. If you would prefer to pay the cost in smaller instalments leading up to the camp, please indicate this when completing the form.
The camp is being held at Luther Heights Youth Camp, Coolum. The children will be involved in a variety of activities in which the camp specialises. These activities are run by specially trained staff who work with the Windsor State School teachers.
At Windsor State School our belief of outdoor education includes actively seeking opportunities for our students to be involved in camps and excursions, where the process of learning, growth, development and education takes place outdoors, where all activities are designed to have a common ‘growth through challenge’ and ‘learning by doing’ philosophy.
Guidelines
The program consists of three core components:
- Outdoor Pursuits – eg. Flying fox, team challenges and beach games etc.
- Environmental Education – understanding the natural environment in which the pursuit is taking place
- Intra and Inter Personal Growth and Development – placing students in an environment that is safe yet challenging; difficult yet enjoyable. The focus of the camp is to build leadership, confidence and team building skills, cooperation, persistence, and resilience in a safe yet challenging environment. These skills will help prepare students for being the leaders of the school in 2025.
We understand that for some children there may be some anxiety associated with going on camp. Please be assured that as the camp approaches we will be spending time with the children to show them pictures of the camp and the activities, discussing routines and expectations as well as answering questions that they may have. If your child does seem anxious about camp, now is the time to start talking to them about their concerns and perhaps arranging some sleep overs at a friend’s place to get them used to packing a bag and being away from home overnight. If you have any concerns regarding camp, please contact your child’s teacher to discuss ways we can resolve them. Personal issues concerning your child are always kept strictly confidential.
The centre is a fully equipped camp and includes all meals that are prepared by qualified chefs, along with any special dietary requirements. The children are required to assist with serving, setting up tables before each meal (plates/cutlery/cups), and keeping the dining room clean.
