The Sustainable Garden

The garden has had a blossoming start to term. We’ve harvested passionfruit and unearthed plenty of sweet potatoes. Both students and adults have been working hard to refresh the soil in preparation for planting beans and corn. Two large bunches of bananas are ripening, which is really exciting.

We’re also continuing to gather seeds, as plants grown locally tend to be more resilient and adapted to the environment. Mrs. Free generously donated some bean seeds she collected from her own garden, along with cotton plants she germinated. One of the cotton plants even has a bud, and it will be amazing to see cotton grow in its natural state.

The bean and tomato circles are back in action with new plants already several centimetres tall. Native strawflowers (seeds collected from a Windsor family’s garden) have been planted in the front flower bed which will be a sight to behold once in full bloom.

The Sustainable Committee is asking for donations of recycled terracotta dip pots for the planting of succulents.

It has been great to see more faces and parents/carers sharing their ideas and knowledge.
