The garden is currently conducting an experiment in the sweet potato and corn field. Sweet potato slips have been planted out using two different methods. The first being using mounds which the sweet potatoes have been planted on the top and the second being crates which the potatoes have been planted inside. Now the question is which will grow more sweet potatoes.
Alongside the sweet potatoes is corn. The corn was carefully sown using bamboo sticks as a guide to ensure straight rows and pebbles to indicate each seed.

Students got their hands dirty learning how to plant potatoes. Everyone had fun using our Windsor compost to refill the potato bed. During the compost collection giant beetle grubs were discovered. This was very interesting to see and feel. Once finished bug inspection, students dug in and planted the seed potatoes ensuring they were well covered. We can’t wait to watch them sprout—and harvest them in a few months for a delicious (and educational) reward!
