The Sustainable Garden
Did you know? ...
Recently our garden took on something very special, cacao seeds! Mrs Free kindly donated to the garden club. Students were excited to see these unique pods and seeds and learn about where chocolate begins. Together, we carefully harvested the seeds out of the pods which took persistence as they were slippery. Student planted them in rich soil while talking about the warm, tropical conditions they need to grow. It will be quite some time before we see any pods but the process is a wonderful way to connect our learning about sustainability, global food systems, and patience in gardening. We can’t wait to watch our cacao seedlings sprout and share their progress with our school community.

Students at Garden Club had the chance to enjoy some delicious melons and then harvest the seeds to start the cycle again. They mixed up their own potting blend, filled seed containers, and carefully planted the seeds inside. With the warmer weather ahead, we’re excited to watch the melon vines sprout and spread, knowing that, in time, they’ll grow into juicy melons for us all to enjoy!
