Teaching and Learning
What’s going on in classrooms this week?
This week’s spotlight is on our Year 3 cohort and one of our specialist key learning areas – Languages (Japanese). Let’s take a look at the fantastic learning experiences they’ve been engaging in.
Year 3
Science
This term in Science, Year 3 have been investigating the movement of Earth to suggest explanations for everyday observations such as day and night, sunrise and sunset, and shadows. 3A conducted an investigation based on the inquiry question ‘How do shadows change as a result of the rotation of Earth?’. Students made predictions, gathered data and observations by measuring shadows at different times of the day, and used their results to make evaluations.
Languages – Japanese
This term in Japanese, our Year 3 students have been learning all about Japanese hobbies. This week they had a chance to practice ‘shodou’ - Japanese calligraphy by writing the characters for Japan. They also practised the sentence - Shumi wa shodou desu. (My hobby is calligraphy). They are all very excited for the end of term for a mini green tea ceremony with Brandis Sensei, a chance to sample some homemade gluten-free mochi and find out which student will be crowned origami sumo champion.
