We have officially reached our halfway point of the 2025 school year, which seems to come around faster each time. What a successful 10 weeks of learning it has been!
On Monday we paused to celebrate student achievement at our Mid-Year ACE Awards. This formal occasion provided yet another valuable opportunity to acknowledge our student’s dedication to learning, their collaborative skills and the strength of our school culture. We were treated to a beautiful performance by the Senior Strings Ensemble, led by Mrs Fanning, who set the scene for what can be achieved with focus, practice and a love of learning.
The morning also provided a time to acknowledge and farewell Mrs Sue Paul and Mrs Jeanette Baigent, as they step into retirement. Staff gathered during the week to wave off these dedicated women, and thank them for their contribution to Windsor State School.
Farewell to Mr Farrell and Welcome to Mr Kurtz
Today we met Mr Simon Kurtz who will commence in Term 3 at Windsor as our PE teacher. Mr Kurtz has a passion for all things sport, with a love of rugby league yet also very comfortable on the indoor netball court. Mr Farrell has been busy handing over all of the important details to ensure that Mr Kurtz can hit the ground running next term.
We know that learning continues beyond the walls of the classroom. With the weather gods on our side, Year 3-6 students and staff enjoyed two quality days of athletics. On display were some very strong individual athletic performances and high levels of participation. As is the Windsor Way, parents were again on hand to support the flow of all events and to provide the sale of sweet treats, keeping energy levels high.
Do you like to Dance?
The Windsor Wigglers led by year 6 teacher, Ms Stephanie Arthur, certainly do! Students from Prep – Year 2 showed off what they have been learning during lunch breaks throughout this first semester. Thank you Ms Arthur who leads this joyful extra-curricular option each week. She is also choreographing for our term 3 musical so she is a very busy lady indeed!
Reporting
As we distribute academic reporting today, term 3 planning is also well underway. Our Head of Department-Curriculum, Lisa Heard, has been working tirelessly with each year level team to ensure that we kick off term 3 with clarity and well-prepared units of work.
We will round off the Semester this Friday with our Prep - Year 2 students proudly wearing house colours and joining in the rousing cheers for Bowen, Lutwyche, Maynard and Wilson at our Junior Athletics Carnival – I look forward to seeing you there!
Thank you for your ongoing support of your students’ learning. I wish you all a wonderful holiday break with your families and look forward to seeing everyone on Monday 14th July as we commence term 3.
Yours in Education
Shona
Opening of the playground – You are invited!
It’s official! You are invited to the opening of our new Early Years Playground on Monday morning July 14 at 9:00am near the Fig Trees. This special outdoor whole school parade is an opportunity to acknowledge our P&C and school community and say THANK YOU for the raising the funds that helped build this new and very special play space.

Acclaimed Psychologist- Karen Young- Parent Seminar- Evening Event
Big feelings and the behaviours that often come with them are part of growing up, but when emotions run high, even the strongest parent-child connection can feel the strain. Boundaries matter. So does connection. The challenge? How to hold your ground without losing your connection and influence in the process. As parents and carers, we want to hold firm, loving boundaries, but how do we do this in a way that deepens connection, holds them safely, and protects their willingness to turn to us?
This seminar is here to help…
We have invited acclaimed psychologist, Karen Young, to Windsor State School to host a parent seminar on the evening of Thursday 14 August 2025.
The topic of her seminar for parents and carers will be, ‘Holding Strong, Loving Boundaries (Including Around Social Media & Screens) While Preserving Influence and Connection’.
It will be about leading with presence, connection and confidence. To view a flyer outlining the content of the evening in detail, please click here.
This seminar, has a different focus to Karen's well-attended and well-received parent seminars from 2022, 2023 and 2024. However, there are some key themes that will be reinforced, as they are highly important for enabling our students to develop with our guidance and support as adults. There will be many key takeaways for parents, carers and staff to implement when working to support our wonderful students.
Historically, these events have seen very strong ticket sales, so please look to opt-in early to secure your seat.
Date: Thursday 14 August, 6.30 – 8.00pm
Venue: Windsor State School Hall
Cost: $15
Tickets are available for purchase exclusively via the Qkr! App via the below path:
Windsor SS > School Payments > Payments > 2025 Karen Young Parent Seminar
Don’t have Qkr! Please see the following link for set up information- How to set-up Qkr!
A list of all parents and carers that have paid via Qkr! will be kept at the door on the evening of the event as a record of who has purchased a ticket. Please present to the sign-on desk upon arrival. You may purchase multiple tickets in each transaction via the 'add to cart' function. We will keep a list of multiple ticket purchases at the door. If you are from outside of Windsor State School and do not have access to Qkr! then EFTPOS facilities will be available to you at the front door on the evening.

Transition to Prep 2026
School enrolments @ Windsor
Establishing and maintaining our student enrolments directly impacts our quantity of staffing at Windsor. For this reason, I am requesting that any families who already know that they will be departing Windsor at the end of 2025, to please let admin@windsorss.eq.edu.au know as soon as able. NB.Year 6 students are already accounted for. Alternatively please complete this survey https://windsorss.schoolzineplus.com/form/873
Although early in the year, for some, these decisions are already made and the sooner we have this information, the better prepared I am in maintaining consistency of staffing at our wonderful school.
Mid Year Music Concert
Nearly a sold-out event, our Mid-Year Music Concert was an evening filled with such wonderful sounds and smiles. Our Junior, Intermediate and Senior String Orchestras, Junior and Senior Bands, Junior and Senior Choirs and Senior Guitar ensemble certainly entertained the audience throughout the evening, showcasing the hard work and persistence of our student musicians throughout the semester. The special twilight concert from our Junior Choir prior to the more formal event certainly highlighted the joy of making music together – it was a stage and audience full of smiles. The smiles didn’t stop there, with our older students proudly performing to an audience of nearly 600 throughout the concert. Congratulations and thank you to all the students who performed and to Mrs Kim Fanning, Mrs Victoria Taylor, Mrs Lindy-Jo Free and Mr Joe Fallon to for their unwavering commitment to our Windsor SS music program.
Year 3-6 Track and Field Carnival- Thank You & Congratulations
A huge congratulations goes to Maynard House who are on top of the 2025 Windsor State School Track & Field Championship after their amazing performances at the Year 3- Year 6 Carnival in Week 9 of Term 2.
Well done to all students who tried their best and had a go.
We look forward to the Prep-Year 2 Carnival on Friday 27 June, where we will be able to calculate the overall winners of the house shield for 2025.
A huge well-done also goes to the students that were crowned age-champions for 2025
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. NAIDOC Week is an opportunity for all Australians to learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth. As NAIDOC Week falls in the school holidays, Windsor SS will celebrate this special week in Week 2 next term.
During the week, classes will display their classrooms ‘Deadly Doors’, created for the this year’s theme of The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy. This theme is particularly pertinent in our primary school setting.
We will also be celebrating at our annual NAIDOC Week parade from 2.15pm – 3.00pm on Monday 21st July. All families are welcome to attend and there will be a special performance from our Junior Choir as well.
Following this parade, we also invite the families of our First Nations students to stay a little longer for some afternoon tea together.
Northside Honours Music Workshop
This week, some of our very talented Year 6 students are attending 3 days of workshops at Wavell State High School for Northside Honours Music Camp. The students that were selected for this program were Year 6 students Claire, Grace, Freddie, Emily, Isabelle, Isabella, Vivienne, Edmund, Theo and Georgia. This has been a fabulous opportunity for the students to connect with musicians from other schools and be provided with learning opportunities to further extend their musicianship. Thank you to Mrs Kim Fanning and Mrs Victoria Taylor for supporting this experience and their work at the Music Camp across the three days.

Getting ready for Semester 2
Over the last two weeks, our teachers have been taking a day away from the classroom to collaboratively plan for next term. As always, they have a laser-like focus on what students need to know and be able to do. By unpacking the teaching and learning required very specifically, teachers can make the adjustments required to ensure all students have the greatest opportunity of success.
As I lead teachers through the moderating processes during our fortnightly curriculum meetings and on these planning days, I am always reminded of how lucky we are to have the staff we do. There is so much expertise within each area of the school and the teamwork each year level displays in working collaboratively to ensure consistency in the implementation of the curriculum across classes is outstanding.
Prep – Term 2
The Prep students have been working hard to develop their writing skills. After completing their dictation sentence, they put on their imaginary teacher glasses and use a red pen to edit their work. They’ve been learning to identify missing finger spaces, correct reversed letters, and check their spelling. The students are really enjoying the independence and taking pride in taking ownership of their learning.

Prep D have been having some fun in the sun practising their number formation. Taking our learning outside has brought lots of smiles and excitement as we used chalk to form numbers in creative ways. The students enjoyed the fresh air while strengthening their fine motor skills and developing confidence in writing numbers correctly. It was a wonderful way to combine movement, play, and learning and turning a simple maths activity into an engaging outdoor experience for everyone.

To explore the concept of family in our HASS unit, the students used their water-colour palettes and painted vibrant portraits of the people who matter most to them. As each brushstroke dried, classrooms filled with conversations about parents, grandparents, siblings, and pets, highlighting both shared traditions and unique quirks. Comparing the finished pieces, children discovered that while every family looks different, love, support, and belonging remain constant threads. The activity fostered creativity, empathy, and a deeper appreciation of diversity.
In Science, Preps have been exploring different materials and their properties. Through hands-on investigations, students have been using their senses to sort, describe, and compare objects made from wood, plastic, metal, and fabric. They’ve enjoyed discovering how materials feel, bend, or stretch and learning how these properties help us decide which materials to use to specific purposes.
Hi Everyone,
Happy End of the Term everyone. I have been busy in the last weeks. My Mum helps with the musical so we go to a lot of meetings before school even starts. Here I am below with Mrs Free and Miss Arthur. My friend Mrs Fanning was hiding from the camera. I am not sure if there is a part for me this year, but I always try to stay on my best behaviour in the meetings just in case.
I got to wear my Qld Maroons shirt for State of Origin game 2 and my support might have even made the difference that helped them win. My Mum said.
I will finish off the last week by going to support everyone at ACE awards parade and you might see me at the Junior sports day. I might even go in a race again this year, so cheer me on if you see me. I am very fast but my Mum is not that fast but that is ok, it is about having fun.
Next term I will start getting ready for my next Assessment so you might see me preparing. My Mum will tell you more about it next term.
We wish everyone a fantastic break. Have fun, stay warm and see you all in Term 3.
Love Ruby

Did you know? ...
Students enjoyed the rewarding experience of harvesting the lettuce they’ve been growing with Ms Wood in our school garden. Over the past few weeks, they’ve been carefully watering, weeding, and watching the lettuce grow from tiny seedlings into lush, leafy greens. The excitement was clear as we picked the mature leaves and talked about how fresh food can go straight from the garden to our plates. It’s been a fantastic way to explore healthy eating, plant life cycles, and sustainable living—all while getting our hands dirty and working together!

Did you know? ...
We planted garlic cloves, ready for a long winter sleep underground! The students carefully spaced each clove and covered them with soil, learning that garlic takes many months to grow and needs patience and care. We also checked in on our potato plants, and there was plenty of excitement—the blue variety is growing faster than the red, with taller shoots and more leaves already pushing through the soil. This has sparked great discussions about plant varieties and growth conditions. As well as inviting in friendly competition as they were planted when on the day of the first State of Origin game. The garden continues to be a fantastic space for hands-on learning and scientific thinking!
