As we wave goodbye to our string of long weekends, I hope you all had a chance to relax, recharge, and enjoy some family time. It sounds like camping was a popular choice—my family included! It truly makes my day when I hear students excitedly share their weekend adventures with their teachers and friends. Those little stories remind us just how special our community is.
A heartfelt belated Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mothers and treasured others who do so much, not just for your own families but for our Windsor family as well. I’m really looking forward to celebrating together at our Ladies Lunch this Saturday and hope to see many of you there!
Now, as we settle into the next six weeks of focused learning, our commitment to literacy and numeracy remains strong. We also balance these important foundations with a variety of creative and sporting activities which there are plenty of this term!
Last week, I had the chance to join over 180 principals from our Met North region for thought-provoking discussion on promoting excellence in state schooling. This is a topic close to my heart, and I’m proud that here at Windsor we continue to foster a culture where every child feels they belong, while holding high expectations for all.
Looking forward to seeing many of you this weekend
Yours in Education

Our junior playground work is underway. Student are enjoying the speed at which changes are occurring with the delivery of rocks provided for a very LOUD experience! Year one in particular have been using this environmental change to discuss natural and built environments during class.
The external painting of A Block (Year 2, 3, 4 and administration) will commence next week. During this refresh students can expect to see painters working up in cherry pickers as they complete this regionally funded job. I assume these painters are not afraid of heights!

Under 8s Celebrations

On Thursday 22nd May from 9.00am – 11.00am, Windsor SS celebrates Under 8s Week with a morning of fun activities and experiences for our Prep, Year 1 and Year 2 students. From 11.00am, the school day will proceed as usual.
As class teachers are each responsible for running a particular activity, we very much welcome parent volunteers to support small groups of students in Prep, Year 1 and Year 2. If you are available to attend the morning and volunteer to guide a small group of students around the activities, please use the form below to register as a volunteer, so class teachers can plan student groups accordingly.
2025 Under 8s Celebration Parent Volunteer Sign-Up
All Prep to Year 2 students are invited to wear free dress on this day. Due to the nature of some of the activities, it would be great if they could come dressed in clothes that they can get messy in. Please also send along a small named bag for your child to carry with them to put any completed crafts/activities in.
Term 2 Pastoral Care Focus- “Relationships” with a lens on ‘Getting Along and Organisation’
During Term 2, each Thursday afternoon, our teachers will be conducting Pastoral Care lessons with students that focus on ‘Relationships’. Particularly, we will be looking at the social-emotional keys to success of ‘Getting Along’ and ‘Organisation’.
Parents and carers can support this focus at home by taking opportunities to discuss and teach students about the importance of:
- Following rules
- Thinking first
- Accepting everyone
- Social Responsibility
- Time management
- Setting Goals
National Reconciliation Week 2025
Reconciliation Week occurs between the 27th May and the 3rd June each year. The National Reconciliation Week theme for 2025 is ‘Bridging Now to Next’. The theme artwork created by Kalkadoon woman Bree Buttenshaw, shows native plants, which are known for regenerating after fire and thriving through adversity and symbolise collective strength and the possibilities of renewal. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about First Nation cultures, shared histories and achievements. During the week, our Junior Choir will perform a special song at parade. Within the classrooms, teachers will have age-appropriate discussions about First Nation histories, cultures and achievements. On Monday 26th May, Sorry Day, our students and staff will wear a purple hibiscus. The hibiscus flower is the national symbol for National Sorry Day, as it is found widely across Australia and is a survivor of Australia’s harsh climate. Windsor is a community that works to embed Indigenous perspectives within our everyday teaching and learning and recognises Reconciliation Week as an important week in the school calendar.

Year 2
Term 2 in Year 2 is an exciting but busy one with lots of great learning planned throughout the term.
In Science this term, students have been learning about living things and their life cycles. What better way to learn about life cycles than to watch one being carried out in real time in our own classrooms. Year 2 students were very excited to have Chrysalis’ in the classroom, and to observe them as they completed their metamorphosis into beautiful Monarch Butterflies. We were then able to release the butterflies in their natural habitats to continue their life cycle.
In keeping with the theme of living things, Year 2 students have been acting as animal researchers in English this term. We are becoming experts on different Australian animals by reading and note-taking and we are using our research notes to write information reports that teach others what we have learnt.
We continue to practice our number facts in Mathematics, and are using them to solve worded problems and addition and subtraction problems involving 2 and 3-digit numbers and sometimes with regrouping. We are getting so good at 2 -and 3- digit numbers that we are starting to learn how to write and represent 4- digit numbers!!!
Year 4
In Science this term, 4C students have been learning all about forces! We have been practising our force identifying skills, scientific diagram drawings and recording pattens in lots of fun 60 second games. Check out 4C showing what they know!
4D’s Maths Scavenger Hunt
During week 2, our pre-service teacher, Miss T created this fun and engaging maths lesson. Students had to find the multiplication questions that were scattered under G Block. They then had to solve them to find a letter that matched a number which was used to decode a secret message. They did an amazing job and managed to crack the code.
In Science during week 3, we explored the push force by playing a game called table tennis soccer. The aim was to use more force than your opponent and push the ball over the other side of the desk. The kids loved participating in this and was a great experiment to learn about forces.
English in Year 4
In English, students have been learning how to identify and use noun groups to add detail and depth to their writing. As part of this unit, we’ve been exploring what life was like for convict children in the late 1700s. It has been fascinating to uncover the many hardships these young people faced during such a challenging period in history.
Below are some examples of student work. Each child was asked to write 2–5 sentences using noun groups to describe the experience of being a chimney sweep in 18th century England.
Throughout these lessons, we have also been supporting students in building their writing stamina. One approach we’ve been using is the ‘Silent Solo’ strategy, where students are given a clear writing prompt and time to work independently. This gradual and focused approach is helping them develop confidence and resilience as writers.
Before School Gala Day Sports Training
THANK YOU Sports Supporters & Staff!
We extend our sincere thanks to the Sports Supporters Group from the P&C who helped staff provide before school sports training for registered students during Week 3 and will do so again once per week until Week 6. These sessions are aimed at helping bring students and teams together for some extra training and rapport building ahead of the upcoming City District Gala Day events which are coming up for our Year 4-6 Students.
A special mention to parents, including Lucinda K, Casey G, Mark M, Katrina O, Alissa B and to staff including Mr Stock, Mr Farrell, Mrs Barlow, Mr O’Dell, Mrs Helm & Mr O’Rourke.
We greatly appreciate the time you invest into putting big smiles on little faces!

Please Access Hyperlink to Register Your Child’s Planned Attendance
At Windsor SS, we take great pride in offering a sequential camping program for our Year 3-6 students.
Our Year 6 students are heading to Canberra this year, on a 4-night, 5-day Senior Trip.
Students in Year 3 will undertake an overnight camp, with Year 4 and Year 5 students undertaking 2-night and 3-night camps respectively, as they build towards their senior trip experience.
As a parent or caregiver of one or more students in Years 3-5 in 2025, we are seeking an 'Expression of Interest' (EOI) from you for each of your students for whom you intend on providing permission for to attend one of our school camps in either Term 3 of Term 4 of 2025.
EOIs enable us to calculate the final number of attendees per camp, plan for support staffing, plan for activities and resourcing.
It is essential that we get your expression of interest, to notify us of your intent for your child to come on camp so that appropriate planning can be put in place.
Having the ability to forward plan for the camp, enables us to then accurately calculate the final costs, before invoicing parents/ caregivers (which will take place in early Term 3). The costs indicated in these EOIs are therefore only 'educated estimates' and may vary from the final invoiced amounts (pending variables such as the amount of students responding to the EOI etc.).
If you are yet to do so, please note that to find out more about the 2025 Year 3-5 Camps, and to submit an 'EOI' for each student that you wish to attend, please select the relevant link below:
Please ensure that you complete an EOI for each student for whom you wish to go on a given camp relevant to their year level by no later than Monday 2nd June 2025.

Year 3-6 Track and Field Carnival
Championship Event Student Nominations and Parent/Carer Volunteers- Nomination Forms
On Thursday 19th June and Friday 20th June (Week 9 Term 2), we will be holding our Year 3-6 Annual Athletics Carnival as part of Health & Physical Education Program. Students will be involved in both track and field-based events. The carnival aims to increase children’s skills; develop team work and our School Culture.
The events the students will participate in will include:

Track Events (Friday 20th June):

Students born in 2013-2016 are eligible for 'district' selection, based on their performances at the carnival.
2025 Field Event Processes - Nominations Required
In order to maximise student opportunity, participation and enjoyment when competing in the field events, we offer two "streams" for each field event.
All students will be allocated to the "House Points Only Stream" unless a parent nominates him/her for the "Competitive/District Eligibility Stream" by 3:00pm Friday 30th May 2025.
Students are able to be nominated for one, some or all field events in the "Competitive/District Eligibility Stream."
If students nominate before the cut-off date to participate in the 'Competitive/District Eligibility Stream', students will partake in the field event/s in a traditional/competitive athletics carnival arrangement (discus/shot-put/high jump/long jump).
Students who do not nominate for the 'Competitive/District Eligibility Stream' by Friday 30th May, will still compete in field events which have been modified to maximise participation, engagement and safety. These modified events, still in a competitive style, provide the opportunity for students to earn multiple points for their Sporting House, with a focus on providing opportunities for more throws/jumps etc. in the timeframe than would be possible for them if all students were in the competitive/district eligibility stream.
Parents/carers who wish to nominate their child for the 'Competitive/District Eligibility Stream' for any of the field events, must do so by completing the forms available by cutting and pasting the following URL into their web-browser: https://windsorss.schoolzineplus.com/form/861 OR by completing the information in the forms below by 3pm Friday 30th May. Please be aware that these nominations are only required for field events.

Term 2 is off and running and I have been very busy. Some photos below of listening to my friends read. I love listening and encouraging them to read and my Mum says that it is one of the benefits of being a therapy dog is that I help young readers build confidence. Just in case you think I am always perfect one day everyone was very busy with their numeracy practise that I thought they had forgotten me so check out what I did below. The children all loved it my Mum was not so sure. But it made us all smile.
My friends in Prep are saying hello when they are out and about. Last week I was heading to go to my toilet spot and all the preps were having a bathroom break as well. Can you see me in the photo? They all wanted a pat.
You will not see me for a few weeks as my Mum is going on a holiday. Don’t worry when she goes on holiday I go and stay with a lovely lady who has a dog friend for me to play with and I really love it there although I miss coming to school.
Keep your eyes out for me at National Simultaneous Storytime. I might not be there in person, but my Mum does not like to miss an opportunity to dress me up.
See you all soon
Love Ruby

Premier’s Reading Challenge

Students who complete the challenge have their efforts recognised with a Certificate of Achievement which will be distributed in October. We are bringing some house spirit to the challenge this year, more details will follow in the next newsletter
National Simultaneous Storytime
We are getting excited about the upcoming Simultaneous Storytime on May 21. As this year’s story centres around a cat called Tinka, we would LOVE to see photos of your cat as part of our display for National Simultaneous Storytime. Please email a photo of your cat to: smatt48@eq.edu.au Don’t forget to come along and check out the display as well as read The Truck Cat story. The Library is open everyday from 8:30am, we’d love to see you there soon.
Book Club
Term 2 Book Club orders have been delivered. There were some orders that were placed after the cut off date in May. These will be arriving soon. Thank you Mrs Olivieri for your efforts in sorting so many orders so quickly for our students! We really appreciate every order made as it provides rewards for the Library in the form of new books.
Did you know? ...
We grew bananas! After waiting patiently our two bunches ripened and we were able to harvest and then eat bananas. This experience taught to have a banana bag ready in order to slow the rate of bananas ripening.

Did you know? ...
Garden Club toiled away to root and pot 118 plants and the Sustainability Committee made 50 wheat bags in order to gift our loved Mothers, Grandmothers and Carers for Mother’s Day. The succulents and pots were donated from the Windsor Community which embodies the true meaning of sustainability.

Developing good character in our kids
The cartoon says it all, doesn’t it…..we love our kids. Regardless of the days they drive us nuts, we’re proud of them and we want the best for them. But sometimes, kids need more than just our love. To develop strong character and make appropriate ethical decisions, kids also need a moral compass and they need practise in how to use it. We can’t always be by their side to guide them in relationships, choices or risk taking, but as their first teachers, we can role model good character and talk about our family values. If our kids know where we stand, they can work out where they do…find out more about positive actions you can take to develop good character in your children here.
